Sumeru Equity PartnersEditor’s Note: Sumeru Equity Partners (SEP) recently made a strategic investment in Kyriba as the leader in cloud treasury and financial management solutions. Kyle Ryland, SEP’s managing partner and a new Kyriba board member, graciously agreed to answer a few questions about the investment and what he sees for the future.

1. Tell us a little bit about SEP and its investment focus.

Sumeru Equity Partners (SEP) is a technology-focused private equity firm founded by an experienced group of investors and operators from Silver Lake. We work with management teams to build market leaders through a focus on core business improvements that are tailored to accelerate growth and profitability. We believe value is created through better strategy and business models, not financial engineering. Our team has invested in a number of leading SaaS companies including Blackline, Buildium, Foreflight, Snow, and Talend and recently helped several of them through successful IPOs.

2. How did you first hear about Kyriba, and what prompted SEP to make such a strong investment in the company?

We first heard about Kyriba through its customers. We look for customer testimonials to identify the best companies and products in markets with strong secular growth. Kyriba has built a very strong relationship with its blue-chip customers. We expect these customers will continue to grow with the company as Kyriba expands its offering and delivers even more value through new features and capabilities. Product leadership, a strong team and an attractive market opportunity are the key factors that led us to make a strategic investment in Kyriba.

3. What do see as Kyriba's potential in this market?

We believe Kyriba has the potential to become the software platform for managing the world’s $7+ trillion of corporate cash through the entire lifecycle of liquidity and risk management. The market opportunity is driven by important secular trends including globalization, electronic payments, cybersecurity, regulation, cloud, and the need for better insight through data and analytics for modern finance organizations.

4. How do you see the role of the modern CFO changing and what makes Kyriba such a good fit for meeting their needs?

Modern CFOs face complex challenges in today’s multinational organizations. They must provide more than numbers and data, offering insight that allows CEOs and boards to make better decisions. Operating in multiple geographies and multiple currencies with electronic payments, complex supply chains, increased regulation and the threat of cyber fraud presents a host of new challenges. Kyriba provides a platform that enhances visibility and insight into the lifeblood of any organization – cash and liquidity management. It does this all on a modern cloud platform that is scalable, cost effective and easy to implement.
